Rory, Yogi, Lhotse and Imp

Samoyeds with Beauty, Intelligence, Soundness and Drive.
Samoyeds who will be your Best Friends for Life.
Hi there! Welcome to Magellan Samoyeds.
My name is Ginger Jenks, and Magellan Samoyeds is named after my very first Samoyed, Magellan. I named my business, Magellan Enterprises, after him, too! I think that Samoyeds are the most beautiful, fun and wonderful breed of dog on earth. We are located in Durango, Colorado.
Our Sammies are loving companions and friends first and foremost. And that’s what I want most for any puppies we breed, too. But they are also Champions in conformation and agility, and have excelled in Rally Obedience, Herding, Therapy work, Counter-Surfing and Snuggling. Samoyeds are multi-talented, diverse and eager to please. Rory and Imp even sing and dance! Seriously.
Watch a video of them here:
While that does not mean “easy to train,” it is important to remember that they are ALWAYS eager to please. What they want most in life is to be near their human companions.
If you’d like to learn experience more of what the
Samoyed is like, pick up a copy of my Book – " Wag, Live, Love – What Dogs Teach Us About Happiness & Life" on Amazon.com now.
Be advised that due to other obligations, we are not planning any new litters of puppies for 2011.

The first step is a conversation.
Why? So that we can both know that we are the right fit for each other. Getting a puppy is a long-term commitment on your part, and breeding a puppy is a long-term commitment on our part. We do our best to match our puppies with their “forever” homes.
When we do have new puppies available, the second step
will be to fill out our Puppy Questionnaire – to download the questionnaire, click here. **Please note – we are not planning any new litters in 2011**

The Top 10 Reasons to have a Samoyed – Watch The
Video
- Are your dogs show quality? Yes, they are! Rory, Imp and Yogi are all AKC Champions, and have won hundreds of ribbons and trophies in conformation, agility, rally obedience, herding and therapy. Rory is also a Master Agility Champion, and has been ranked in the Top 5 Agility Samoyeds in the US during 2006-2008. Imp is a multiple Best of Breed winner, a multi-group placer, and was Best Working Samoyed at the 2006 Samoyed Club of America National Specialty. Rory and Imp are both Samoyed Club of America National winners and placers in conformation, agility and rally. Yogi, a new Champion in 2008, is early in his career, and finished easily with 3 majors.
- I just want a pet – why should I care about all this “show” and “Champion stuff?” So glad you asked! Conformation dog shows are where the “best of breed” is determined, meaning which dogs are the best to be bred and contribute to what makes the ideal Samoyed. They are evaluated according the Breed Standard, which specifies how the ideal Samoyed should look, move and act. So when your dog is a breed Champion, you know you have a good representative of the breed, worthy of contributing to the future of the breed.
In agility, the canine athletes are tested on their physical and mental abilities. It is a team racing event with the handler, though an obstacle course of jumps, tunnels, weave poles, teeter-totters and other challenges. It’s great fun! To become a Master Agility Champion is a truly great accomplishment, and Rory is one of just 4 Samoyeds in history (as of 2008) to have won this honor in addition to being a Breed Champion in conformation.See his MACH run here:
Dogs who are successful in agility are smart, athletic, trainable, adaptable and in great condition. These are very good qualities to pass on in a breeding program. - Can I show and possibly breed my Samoyed? Yes, if you want a show contract. Contact us for more info.
- Do I have to show my Samoyed? Nope. We think showing is one of the most fun and rewarding things you can do with your Samoyed, but realize it is not for everyone. If you would like for your puppy to be a Champion, we can show your dog for you, if you are not interested in pursuing it yourself. Or, just relax and have fun with your dog. It’s your choice.
- What do puppies cost? Thank you for asking! Puppies cost much more than we sell them for. We do extensive health clearances, put Championships on our dogs, have them thoroughly checked by veterinarians before breeding and during pregnancy, and create the best environment possible for our puppies, including having a special room in our home set aside just for them, vaccinations, eye checks, toys, premium puppy food and lots of socialization and love.
- Can I pick out my own puppy? We will choose the puppy that we think is the best match for you, based on your wants and your lifestyle, and the puppy’s personality. We ask that you trust us on this, as we have lived all day, every day with these pups from the moment they were born, until when he or she goes home with you.
- When can I get my puppy? At approximately 8-11 weeks of age.
- What are your expectations of me as a puppy buyer? Love, shelter, proper nutrition and health care for the life of the dog. Training! Being a responsible dog owner and human being – this includes (but is not limited to!) training, microchip , wellness, and helping your dog to be a good citizen. We will expect you to honor the terms of our contract, just as we will honor them.
- How often do you have puppies? Rarely. We have a litter expected in November of 2009, and don’t know when we might breed again after that. We love to compete and spend a lot of our time doing that.
- Are you a kennel? No. Our dogs are our family and live in our home, all the time.
- What can I expect from you as a breeder? To have done our very best in terms of choosing a wonderful sire and dam, appropriate health clearances, medical and nutritional care, lots of love and for the puppies to have been socialized in our home. You can also expect to have us as a resource for the life of your dog, when you have questions or may want guidance.
- Do you offer health guarantees? No guarantees, but health checks of eyes, hips, brucellosis, all vaccines, cardiac when available, no significant health issues in the dogs that we use for breeding.
- What other things should I be thinking about in getting a Samoyed? Whether a Samoyed is the right breed for you. You will need a fenced yard, as they are not the type of dog to “hang out” in the yard. Be prepared for a grooming commitment (time, money and supplies), and providing adequate exercise for your Sammy. They can be destructive if they do not get enough attention and exercise (barking, digging, chewing). Many Samoyeds like to bark, and cannot be left outside unattended for long periods. They love human companionship, and need to be a house dog, not an outside dog.
